Therapy can change your life. Starting your own personal journey can make you feel more confident, more in charge, and will help you get more of what you want in life. I can help you to define and break through barriers that have held you back temporarily or perhaps for as long as you can remember.

As a therapist, I tend to be interactive in sessions giving you feedback that will help you to understand yourself better. Understanding more about yourself and certain patterns in relationships will give you greater control over your life. I strive to provide an environment where you can explore where you are and how to get where you want to be. Drawing on principles of Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems Therapy, DBT, mindfulness and coaching, we’ll partner to identify the thoughts and behaviors that get in your way. I integrate also insight-oriented, relational psychotherapy with coping skills and concepts to meet both immediate needs and to create long-term structural changes. My clinical style balances warmth, humor, and curiosity with direct, in-the-moment, feedback and prompting. With over 15 years of experience, I adapt my treatment approach to meet your unique needs and goals.

I hold space for you to let go of heavy expectations and to get closer to your most authentic and unfiltered self. This is where you rediscover parts of yourself, connect with emotions that you have buried, allow things to get a little “messy," and create meaningful change. Intense feelings can be overwhelming but interacting with someone you can trust in a supportive, compassionate therapeutic relationship can help you have more control over feelings rather than feelings having control over you. I help clients unpack problematic patterns of behavior, manage difficult emotions, and move through pain to find relief. I am here to help you process the impact of your own childhood experiences, explore how these past patterns impact your current patterns, and build the family dynamics you desire.

Reaching out for help takes strength, and calling a therapist is a courageous first step in the healing process. Psychotherapy is a unique opportunity to learn about yourself in a safe and protected environment where the focus is on your needs. Our work together will free you to make choices about your life and your relationships that may not have felt possible in the past.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Western Washington University and my Masters in Counseling from Trinity Western University. I work in Bellingham Washington seeing individuals over 18 years old. I worked as part of a team of counselors at Bridging Counseling Ministries located near Fairhaven for 5 years until heading out on my own. I have worked in partnership with a number of churches around Whatcom, Skagit, and Island Counties. In 2008 I helped establish MiddlePath Counseling which provides DBT skills group and individual counseling.

    A bit about myself

During my free time, I enjoy engaging in various activities such as hiking on trails up at Chuckanut Mountain, The North Cascades and Mount Baker, walking Whatcom Falls Park, listening to a mix of all types of music, traveling locally in Whatcom County and the Olympic Pennisula as well as outside of the area, time with my wife and kids, and continuously learning through academics and the school of life.  I also enjoy reading biographies and memoirs at coffee houses on Bellingham type of days. I have lived in Bellingham since 1996, love our local culture and believe we live in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
